Myopia Control

What are the Symptoms of Myopia?

Schedule an eye exam at our office if you notice any of the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty seeing distant objects
  • Squinting to see distant objects
  • Headaches
  • Holding reading material close to your face
  • Sitting close to the television

Myopia in children is typical and poor performance in school is a telltale sign of a vision issue.

What are the options for Myopia Control?

There are many choices to control myopia, depending on your severity

Eyeglasses

These are one of the most popular options, especially for kids who may struggle to wear contact lenses. We can help your child make the best choice during a pediatric eye exam. We also have bifocal and multifocal lenses as options.

Contact Lenses

Many older children and adults like to use contact lenses as an option to treat their myopia. One popular choice is Ortho-K treatment, where our patients wear contact lenses as they sleep. They gently reshape the cornea, so eyeglasses or contacts do not need to be worn during the day. The results are not permanent, and you need to continue treatment to see results.

Medicated Eye Drops

We also offer medicated eye drops to slow the progression of myopia. These drops are generally recommended for older children and early teens. While they cannot correct myopia, they can help stop it from worsening. The eye drops can have mild side effects, which we will explain at our office.

Starting Myopia Control

Myopia tends to get worse as children and teens become young adults. It's best to start myopia management as soon as possible. We can help you with a management plan at our office.
