We will also do additional testing, including visual acuity, measuring eye pressure, and advanced retinal imaging. During a diabetic eye exam, our team will also ask about your medical history and any related health issues that may affect your vision, such as your sugar levels and any lists of medications you currently taking.

How Often Should You Get a Diabetic Eye Exam?

Regular diabetic eye exams are necessary to monitor the condition and prevent blindness. According to the American Diabetes Association, you should have an exam within five years of diagnosis for Type 1 diabetes. Any patient with type 2 diabetes should have an exam when it they diagnosed. Follow-up exams should happen annually after the initial appointment.
